Golden Globes Best Dressed

January is known for many drab things: the unforgiving weather, collective detox (aka dry January), the post-holiday-bloat and the dire bank account statements, to name a few. And let me tell you, it’s not an easy month to hold a birthday party… I challenge you to get friends out of their comfy hibernation pods and Netflix marathons when they’ve already committed themselves to yoga, green juices and meat-free diets. BUT lest we forget, it also means that Awards Season is here! So hey, it ain’t so bad after all if you like good films/TV and pretty clothes. Let’s kick off with the Golden Globe’s best dressed then, shall we?

Caitriona Balfe in minimalist Delpozo

Minimal yet interesting, it’s a dramatic choice without being too in-your-face. I dig the contrast of navy and orange and the subtle, sculptural draping. Isn’t it interesting how one small detail – the flower brooch – holds it together and avoids it from looking too plain? Sure, being a former model with the neck of a gazelle does help. Raf Simons would be proud.

Emma Stone in a star-studded Valentino Haute Couture

Not gonna lie, I have a soft spot for this one because OMG isn’t she just so friggin’ adorable? And I trust her to always bring a dose of flapper-girl sophistication to the red carpet. Movie-wise, she has made some pretty great choices early on in her career (Superbad and Zombieland, hello!) quickly cementing her status as cute Hollywood goofball and as of last night, award-winning ingénue for her leading role in La La Land (which I cannot wait to watch!). And what better outfit to collect her prize for a film about a struggling actress, than one that screams: “I’m a star who has made it to Tinseltown’s Olympus”? Oh, the irony.

Sienna Miller looks all-white in Michael Kors Collection

Just take a look at this picture, and you instantly know why Sienna is an “It Girl”: she has that Kate Moss quality. Now, I don’t like comparing two very different and accomplished women (although fun fact, they’re both Capricorns like myself) but just like Kate, she always breathes this cool-girl air of insouciant chic to even the most glamorous frocks. So many things could go wrong here: there’s lots and lots of pearls, old-lady earrings and a floor-sweeping white one piece. But add a ruffled up ponytail, contoured cheekbones and cheeky midriff and voila’, it’s Dynasty-cruise-meets-Studio54-afterparty. You and I both know, she knows how to have a good time!

Lily Collins is a princess in Zuhair Murad

Well, I have no doubt that when Hollywood’s top stylist have their clients requesting classical, fairy-tale princess dresses, they have Zuhair Murad on speed dial. Something so exquisitely feminine, intricately embellished and over-the-top in that big bell-gown shape, it has got to be either him, Marchesa or Valentino. I’m getting proper oligarch-wedding-vibes but hey, I’m a romantic and I really love this. It suits her like a glove and she is definitely wearing the dress – not the other way around! The red lipstick just takes it to a whole new level.

Millie Bob Brown dazzles in Jenny Packman

Do you recognise her sans the patient gown and pink schoolgirl dress and gym socks? Now, picture her with a shaved head. Yup, it’s none other than our little Eleven from Stranger Things all grown up! I admit, I did a double take and had to look twice as I didn’t recognise her at all! I must say, the actress made both her cinematic and red carpet debut with aplomb. From the iconic TV uniform, she’s morphing into a fashionable starlet right before our eyes. This metallic ensemble is certainly promising. One to watch!
